The Bamboo Tree's Growth

Are you familiar with the story of the bamboo tree? An amazing plant in many ways, it serves as a vital metaphor for the work we are doing with Our Better Selves.

How long does it take for a bamboo tree to grow an inch out of the ground?

Days? Weeks? Months? Maybe even years?

Five years. It takes nearly five years for the bamboo tree to merely break through the soil’s surface. Now, how long do you think it takes for the bamboo tree to grow to another 100ft?

About five weeks.

This is worth repeating - five years to grow an inch and five weeks to grow another 100ft. This subsequent growth happens so quickly that people often say they can see the tree “growing in front of their eyes”.

Like the bamboo tree, Our Better Selves knows that change agents are not made overnight. We emerge from the hard work of activating our values over time and putting our energy towards things that matter in our lives. Showing up when others won’t, doing the hard things, not being perfect, continuing to get up when we fall; this is why we exist.

Our Better Selves will never promise magic pills, or miracle cures. Yes, we are high on our methods, but will never promise miracles. What can we say? That we will be with you in your noble journey as a change agent and that we will create the ecosystem to support your success. Wherever you are right now, as a business owner, manager, employee, or volunteer, we are ready to serve your aspirations as a change agent.

Like the bamboo tree, we are in this for the long haul. We look forward to when you leap from the soil and into the air because you will be solving the important problems that we face.
